SOCIAL STRUCTURE OF NIGERIA

 Social Structure refers to organized form of social institutions and patterns of relationship that compose a society.

 *Society* means coming together for companionship. It refers to a large grouping that shares the same geographical  territory, a common culture. 
Every society has value.

 *NORMS*
They are patterns or behaviors that is acceptable in the society.

```Types ```
1. Morales
2. Folk way

Both norms can be sanctioned either positively or negatively.
1.  *Morales* are the type of norms when if broken, one can be *negatively* sanctioned for it. e.g. Murder

2. *Folk Way* are the norms which are not accorded much importance *(they are taken lightly).*


      *TYPES OF SOCIETY*

A. *PreIndustrial society* :.Human labour was preeminent. e.g 
Hunting, Horticulture society, herding society.

B. *Industrial society:-* Machines took over human later. This  gave rise to post industrial society (ICT)

C. *Post Industrial society:-* This was the commencement of the ICT era


       ```SOCIAL INSTITUTION```
This refers to a system of behavioural and relationship pattern that are densely interwoven and enduring and functions across an entire society. e.g. Religion, Family, Education, Health


 *FAMILY TYPES*
1. By Residence
2. By Authority

 *Types of Family by Residence*

A. *Patrilocal:-* When the married wife leaves her parent's house and goes to reside with her husband's parents in their house. *(husband's house)*

B. *Matrilocal:-* When the couple decides to live in the wife's parents' house. *(Wife's house)*

C. *Neolocal:-* This is the type in which the newly wedded couple set up a new home independent of either their parents.

 *Types of Family by Authority*

A. *Patriarchal:-* The father is the central head and the authority in the family.

B. *Matriarchal:-* The mother is the central figure head and her authority is supreme.
